Admit it. You’ve tried sliced cucumbers. How about other home remedies? Then there are the myriads of expensive solutions, creams and masks that promise wonders but usually offer minimal results at high costs – how many of those have you tried? There’s a drawer in every bathroom that collects all the miracle cures that didn’t work.
Unfortunately, the reality is that the skin under our eyes is one of those areas that is most resistant to improvement. Worse yet, many of us have been told our undereye challenges are genetic and can’t be fixed. The problem is, though, that some of the most noticeable signs of aging, stress, exhaustion or poor health appear under our eyes first. From puffiness and dark circles to crow’s feet, the eyes often see the signs of aging first – and it’s been seemingly impossible to reverse the results.
That was before Platelet-Rich Plasma – PRP for short - changed everything in the realm of aesthetic medicine, including the hard-to-treat undereye area. PRP is an excellent alternative to fillers that carry greater risk. At the Center for Sports & Regenerative Orthopedics in Waldorf, MD, we offer top medical aesthetic treatments like PRP Under Eyes Treatment that will leave your skin looking and feeling firmer, softer and younger.
PRP is regenerative medicine at its best. This minimally invasive treatment is an advanced medical aesthetic option that utilizes your own blood plasma to tap into your body’s natural self-healing abilities. PRP Under Eyes Treatments utilize, specifically, the platelets in the blood to rejuvenate the undereye area.
Your blood plasma contains natural growth factors that trigger collagen and elastin production. By isolating this plasma – which is rich with platelets after being centrifuged - and injecting it back into your skin, you can see smoother, refreshed, brighter-looking skin under your eyes.
PRP Under Eyes Treatment involves three easy steps:
Step 1: Extraction A small amount of your own blood is drawn.
Step 2: Concentration Your blood is centrifuged to concentrate the platelets, forming the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) we will use
Step 3: Injection The PRP is injected into the under-eye area.
If the word injection intimidates you, no worries. Topical anesthetics can be used to minimize any mild discomfort you might experience. PRP injections have a safe track record, and our FDA-cleared PRP Under Eyes Treatment employs PRP injections that can only be administered by a licensed and trained medical provider.
One of the top benefits of PRP injections is that they work by stimulating the body's natural healing process, including elastin and collagen production. PRP is recognized for its ability to rejuvenate and repair damaged or aging skin. The results are all-natural and gradual.
Additional benefits of PRP Under Eyes Treatment range from skin rejuvenation – improving both texture and elasticity – to reducing fine lines and wrinkles, bringing radiance to dull skin, and improving the health of your skin. Dark circles are often reduced or even eliminated, while loose skin becomes taut, reducing the appearance of those dreaded undereye “bags.”
Some of the top benefits of PRP when it comes to the skin on your face, including the undereye area, include:
With a quick treatment time – from 30 to 60 minutes – it can be performed during your lunch hour. PRP Under Eyes Treatment has an excellent track record and has brought profound results for many of our patients in the Waldorf MD area.
When it comes to other aesthetic concerns, if you are wanting to improve dull skin, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, or any other facial skin challenges, in particular, PRP has delivered stunning results for many of our patients at our Waldorf MD location.

At your first session, you will speak with one ofour PRP Under Eyes Injection specialists to develop a personalized treatment plan based upon your medical history, as well as review any concerns or questions you may have. Your blood will be drawn and centrifuged to create your own PRP that will be used. The injection site will be thoroughly cleaned, then a small needle will be used to inject your PRP into your treatment area. The process can be repeated if you have multiple areas we need to treat.
Many people see improvements within a few week following their initial PRP undereye procedures. It may take months to realize the full benefit of PRP, as improvement continues over time. Results will vary among individuals, of course, depending on the original condition of the skin and the severity of damage.
Treatments generally require no more tha one hour, but your first session may last longer as we collect your medical information.
We usually recommend starting with a series of 1-3 treatmens. The number of sessions you will need to see the results you desire will depend upon the severity of your undereye condition and how your body responds to PRP. Every patient responds differently.
PRP injections have an excellent safety pofile. PRP Under Eyes injections may not be right for you if you have certain allergies (e.g., to stainless steel), hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction, are taking certain medications, or have other specific medical issues. Also, if you have blood clotting disorders, anemia, or cancer, or if you have skin cancer, open wounds, sores or irritated skin in the treatment area, PRP injections may be contraindicated. We will discuss all of your safety concerns at our first session before proceeding with treatment.
PRP injections cause little to no discomfor because of the use of local, topical anesthetic. It is normal for some especially sensitive patients to experience mild pain, swelling and soreness following a treatment session, but it should only be temporary and can be managed with rest and over-the-counter pain medication.
In general, PRP Under Eyes has minmal to no side effects. We have many patients who experience no side effects at all. While some experience swelling, redness, soreness, or even bruising at the injection site, these effects are only temporary.
