      Pain Management Waldorf MD

      Pain Management Waldorf MD

Living with pain, especially chronic pain, affects all aspects of life. The impact is felt emotionally, physically, and can even affect your state of mental well-being. An estimated 50 million Americans live with pain, whether it is the result of a car accident, a physical injury, repetitive use of muscles, or even from an underlying illness, such as arthritis.

The result of musculoskeletal (muscle, spinal) or neuropathic (nerve) pain can be debilitating, making it hard for you to engage in life the way you want to.

At the Center for Sports & Regenerative Orthopedics, the philosophy driving our practice is in formulating an accurate and detailed diagnosis and then finding the best treatment modality.

We use a tiered approach to treating your pain and restoring balance. For our physicians, pain management starts with listening to you, assessing the source of pain, and developing a viable treatment plan to reduce and eventually, eliminate your pain.

Whether your pain is in your joints, low back, neck, or shoulders, we will put together a robust treatment plan to address and alleviate your pain.

      Pain Management Protocols

Once we have determined the source of pain, we use a variety of treatment modalities to restore your body to a pain-free life. Our practice relies on cutting-edge techniques and our physicians are continually engaged in learning, so our patients have access to the best medical care.

Ultrasound technology has proven to be an invaluable resource in pain management – it allows the physician to identify abnormalities, such as osteoarthritis, or injuries, such as muscle tears, and then treat therapeutically, without the use of steroid injections.

      Ultrasound Guided Injections

      • Spine Injection – Ultrasound technology tells us whether the pain is coming from the bone, disc, facet, joint, muscle, or connective tissue. Once the source is pinpointed, we can devise an appropriate treatment to alleviate pain and swelling in the area, creating space for healing.
      • Tendon or Nerve Hydrodissection – Hydrodissection injections usually use a combination of saline and an anesthetic to separate tissue areas that might be causing pain. It can be used to treat conditions, such as rotator cuff pain and/or tears, frozen shoulder, and joint pain due to muscle or tendon strain. It can also be used to relieve nerve entrapment, such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
      • Joint Pain – Ultrasound technology allows the physician to see what is creating the pain in or surrounding the joint, and then treat with accuracy and precision.
      • Trigger Point Injections – Ultrasound technology allows us to clearly visualize areas of muscular constriction and tightness, which lead to limited mobility and pain. Ultrasound-guided injections allow our physicians to see the needle as it enters the body and ensure that the intended area is being targeted.
      • Scar Tissue Release – The body develops scar tissue following surgical procedures. Often, releasing scar tissue under the benefit of ultrasound technology alleviates localized or widespread pain from previous surgeries. Regenerative

      Spine or Joint Injections

As a part of Regenerative Medicine, these injections can include:

      • Prolotherapy – This non-invasive treatment method involves injecting a solution of dextrose and lidocaine into damaged or weakened ligaments, muscle tissue, and tendons to encourage inflammation. The body’s inflammatory response is thought to trigger the creation of repair cells, which help restore function and reduce pain.
      • PRP – concentrated platelets prepared from your blood help your body heal from conditions like ankle/ knee pain, tendon or muscle injuries.

      Dry Needling

Dry needling uses fine needles to treat chronic muscle pain, knots, and tender muscles. It targets the tight, sensitive bands of muscle called myofascial trigger points. These trigger points limit your range of motion and can even cause discomfort in other parts of your body.

Do You Offer Physical Therapy Exercises?

Our practice is a firm believer in using every possible treatment method for pain management. Physical therapy helps strengthen the muscles surrounding an injury, which can improve recovery outcomes. It can also be an important tool in retraining the muscles of the body to restore balance and stability. We will work to refer you to the best possible physical therapist, so you can get back to pain-free movement.

What Will My First Appointment Be Like?

To begin your journey to pain relief, you will undergo a detailed exam that will include a diagnostic ultrasound to assess the areas causing pain.

We will also perform a physical exam and ask you about your physical limitations. We will discuss multiple treatment options and decide on the one that best suits your comfort level and diagnosis.
